LARKANA, May 12: The Anti-Corruption Establishment (ACE) team including circle officers of Larkana, Nawabshah and Sanghar raided the Larkana District Nazim’s Secretariat and seized record on the directive of Sindh Chief Minister.

The three circle officers, Niaz Hussain Khajjar, Ghulam Hussain Shaikh and Muhammed Ismaiel Abbasi of Larkana, Sanghar and Nawabshah, respectively sought record of the account of District Nazim in the presence of Judicial Magistrate-II Larkana Iqbal Ahmed Metlo.

The raid created panic while the ACE team called the Executive District Officer Finance Yaseen Shar and Accounts Officer Arbab Janveri and secured record pertaining to Sindh Devolved Social Sector Programme (SDSSP), Citizens Community Board (CCB) and counterfoil of cheques issued by the District Nazim for investigation.

The team prepared ‘Mushirnama’ on the spot but without giving a copy to the District Nazim and left the office.

The team will remain in Larkana for three days, sources in the ACE said.

Nazim of Awam Dost Panel (ADP) on condition of anonymity told Dawn that fortnight back some 30 ADP members submitted an application to the CM alleging misappropriation of funds in development schemes and recording of wrong ‘minutes’ of District Council’s proceeding by the Khushahal Pakistan Panel (KPP).

The CM marked the application to Chairman ACE Sindh, who subsequently constituted a committee to probe the matter, he said.

District Nazim Larkana Muhammed Baksh Arjio told Dawn that the ADP members upon failing to unseat him through a no-confidence motion resorted to this medium to harass him and the staff. “ADP members failed in convincing KPP members to go against and now are resorting to such tactics which I’m ready to face,” he said. He said the ADP was short of members to unseat him.

KPP member Badar Abbasi present during the raid told this scribe that it was the part of game but did not elaborate his point of view.

FIRE: Ten-year old Naeema Narejo was burnt alive while three houses were burnt to ashes when fire broke out from the kitchen in village ‘Izat-ji-wandh’ on the outskirts of Naudero town on Monday.

The charred body of Naema Narejo was recovered and later buried.
