NAWABSHAH: Judge orders cases filed against police

NAWABSHAH, May 10: The session judge of Nawabshah has directed the DPO of Nawabshah to register a case against the SPO of Saddar, the SHO of A-Section and the SHO of Lakhat police stations for illegally detaining a number of innocent people.
An order issued by the sessions court, said that a judicial magistrate of Doulatpur during a raid at Lakhat police station on March 5, 2008, found 14 men, 18 women and 11 children in illegal confinement without any entry in Roznamcha (entry register) who were later released on P.R. bond by the magistrate.
Later the detained people in their statements said that they were detained, insulted, humiliated and maltreated by the SPO of Saddar Aslam Langah and SHO A-Section Ghulam Sarwar Zardari when they were peacefully participating in a procession against narcotic dealers, outside the local press club.
The order stated that notices had been issued to police officials but they failed to produce any entry in the record of both the police stations regarding shifting of people from A-Section to Lakhat police station and also did not produce the detainees before any magistrate.
The confinement of men, women and children was illegal and unjust and the DPO of Nawabshah has been directed to register the case against the SPO, SHO A-Section and SHO of Lakhat police station and take appropriate legal action against the officials under police rules with intimation to the court within 15 days, the order said.
DEMO: Dozens of residents of union council-7, including women, staged a demonstration outside the local press club here on Saturday to protest against the chairman of local Zakat and Ushr committee.
They were carrying placards and were raising slogans against the UC chairman of zakat and ushr committee.
The protesters told reporters that the chairman and members of the zakat and ushr committee of UC-7 were appointed on favouritism and without the consent of notables.
They alleged that the chairman and members distribute money among themselves and added that they solely dependent on zakat money for their livelihood.
They demanded of the authorities to appoint an honest chairman and members of the zakat committee.
STUDENTS BOYCOTT: Students of Quaid-i-Awam University of Engineering, Science and Technology Nawabshah boycotted the paper of 4-batch in protest here on Saturday.
Talking to reporters, Sami Brohi, Sultan Hah, Noor Mohammad Domki, Saqib Shaikh, Zuhaib Panhwar, Hafiz Safdar and others students said that the administration was charging excessive examinations fees.
They said that they were also facing problems of transport and accommodation.
They demanded of resolution of their problems and warned to continue their boycott till the acceptance of their demands.
