KARACHI, March 7: The Sindh Criminal Prosecution Service has sent a summary of the selected candidates for its vacant posts to the Sindh chief minister for approval.

The summary contains names of the applicants who had been selected for the posts of deputy prosecutors-general, assistant prosecutors-general, deputy district public prosecutors, assistant district public prosecutors, deputy director and assistant deputy director (monitoring, implementation and evaluation) during the recruitments supervised by the Sindh Public Service Commission.

The SCPS, which was constituted on May 13, 2007 with the promulgation of the Sindh Criminal Prosecution Service (constitution, functions and powers) Ordinance, 2007, by the governor for a speedy disposal of over 66,000 criminal cases lying pending in different courts across the province, to supervise investigations in criminal cases by police and other investigating divisions and to ensure an independent and efficient service for the prosecution of criminal cases. However, the department has not started functioning as its key posts including that of the prosecutor-general have been lying vacant.

The SCPS secretary, Ishaq Lashari, told Dawn that the appointment of the prosecutor-general Sindh would be made on the recommendations of a committee headed by the Sindh chief secretary. He said that applications had been invited and the process would be completed soon.

The names of the selected candidates include, Syed Naveed Ahmed Shah, Zulfiaq Ali, Suhail Jabbar Malik, Khadim Hussain, Syed Meeral Shah and Rahat Ashan for the posts of deputy prosecutors-general; Ali Haider Shaikh, Abrar Ali Khichi, Shyam Lal Hindu, Naiz Hussain Meerani, Imtiaz Ali Jalbani, Abdul Rehman Kolachi, Adbullah, Mohammad Iqbal Awan, Syed Sardar Ali Shah, Shahid Ahmed Shaikh, Shahzada Saleem Nahiyoon, Mohammad Ahmed, Seema Aqbus, Muntazir Mehdi Memon, Zahoor Shah and Shamis-uddin for the posts of assistant prosecutors-general; Inam Ali Malik, Nasir Durrani, Abdul Razzaq, Mohammad Anwer Mahar, Ghulam Mohammad Korai, Hidayatullh Khan, Ghazala Siddiq, Pervez Ahmed, Shahnaz Anwar, Zarar Khan, Javed Ahmed Shah for the posts of deputy district prosecutors; Syed Mahboob Ali for deputy director; and Imtiaz Ahmed Memon and Shahid Iqbal Shaikh for assistant director (monitoring implementation and evaluation). The summary also included names of 146 selected candidates for the posts of assistant district public prosecutors.
