War college attack; 13 arrested

Published March 6, 2008

LAHORE, March 5: Police have taken into custody over a dozen people after tracing the chassis number of the motorcycle used in Tuesday’s suicide attack on the Naval War College.

“The original chassis number of the motorcycle, which had been tampered with, was traced with the help of the Forensic Science Laboratory. Police then took several people, including two motorcycle dealers, into custody for interrogation,” sources privy to the investigation told Dawn on Wednesday.

The sources said that police had approached the motorcycle-manufacturing company and obtained the record of the first motorcycle owner.

Police then picked up several people on the owner’s disclosure of further sale and purchase of the bike.

The sources said that police had received information about the last man who had purchased the bike a few days ago. His arrest, they hoped, might lead to the identification of the bombers.
