BADIN, March 2: Hundreds of people of Bhurgari Mohalla took out a procession on Sunday in protest against the installation of a mobile telephone tower by a cellular company in an amenity plot in the residential area.
They appealed to the Supreme Court of Pakistan and the authorities concerned to stop the cellular company from installing the tower.
Led by Ali Ahmed Bhurgari, Murad Mallah and Shafi Mohammad Bhatti, the rally started from Al-Dawa Madressah and after marching on main thoroughfares reached the press club.
Protesters were raising slogans “Tower Hatayo-Zindagi Bachayo”. They observed a sit-in on the Shah Latif road.
They complained that unchecked installation of such towers in Badin was a threat to the lives of people and a mafia was behind it.
They said that Badin town is a coastal area which is frequently hit by natural calamities, like cyclones, earthquakes, devastating floods and rains.
They alleged that the tower was being installed against the wishes of area people.
They said that an NOC from taluka nazim was obtained under political pressure. The town authorities through an official letter had stopped the mobile company from carrying out the construction work.
They accused the company for continuing the installation and ignoring the objections of people and violating the TMA orders.
They appealed to the company’s chief executive to initiate an enquiry into the installation of cell phone tower in an amenity plot and order its withdrawal and relieve the people of Bhurgari Mohalla from mental tortures, risk and environmental pollution.
