Notices in plea against tower installation

By Our Reporter

LAHORE, Feb 27: Justice Muhammad Muzammal Khan of the Lahore High Court (LHC) on Wednesday admitted for regular hearing a petition against installation of a transmission tower by a cellular company in front of a residence in Model Town.

The LHC judge also issued notices to the Punjab cooperatives secretary, the Environmental Protection Agency, the Model Town Society (MTS), the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority chairman and the regional manager of the private cellular company for March 14.

Petitioner-lawyer Iqbal Mahmood Awan said MTS President Lt-Col Tahir Kardar (retired) allowed the cellular company to install a tower in front of his residence without obtaining permission from the authorities concerned.

He said the tower was causing great health hazards to residents of the locality because of magnetic waves transmitted from it, which cause numerous diseases like blood cancer and damage to human brain.
