Poll-related violence claims four lives

SHIKARPUR, Feb 19: Two people were killed and several others were injured in the post-election violence in different parts of interior of Sindh on Tuesday. Two other people, who had suffered serious injuries in Monday’s violence, died in hospitals on Tuesday.

A group of armed men belonging to the Mahar tribe attacked the Pyaro Khan Bhayo village in Shikarpur with automatic weapons, killing two people and injuring four others.

Those killed in the attack were identified as Lutfullah Bhayo and Mohammad Aqil Bhayo.

The victims were taken to Shikarpur Civil Hospital. The motive of the attack was stated to be a dispute over polling in Maseeti village.

Imdad Ali Shar, a PPP worker who had suffered injuries in a clash between PPP and PML-F workers at a polling station in Haji Khan Detho village, died in the Larkana Civil Hospital on Tuesday.

In Sukkur, Shoaib Pitafi, a nephew of a PPP candidate for PS-7, Ghotki, who was injured in an armed attack at a polling station in Dad Leghari on Monday, died on Tuesday.

Sardar Ahmed and his son and nephew were visiting a polling station when some armed men opened fire, killing Shoaib.

Talking to newsmen, Sardar Ahmed Ali Pitafi blamed Leghari tribesmen for the murder. In Mirpurkhas, nine PPP workers were injured in an armed clash between PPP and PML-F workers at Girhoor town over the voting issue.

In Thatta, some unknown armed men opened fire on a PPP rally, injuring three people.

The condition of PPP activist Aijaz Khudai was stated to be critical. After the incident, enraged people staged a protest. Later, they blocked the National Highway. Newly elected MNA Dr Abdul Wahid Soomro and MPA Abdul Jalil Memon reached the spot and brought the situation under control.

In the Kashmore district, 26 people were injured in a clash between Mazari and Bhutto groups in Badhania area.

Shops and markets in Badani, Bakshapur and adjoining areas remained closed because of the violence.
