JACOBABAD: Fair polls a myth under Musharraf, says STP

By Our Correspondent

JACOBABAD, Feb 7: Sindh Taraqi Pasand Party Chairman Dr Qadir Magsi said on Thursday that President Pervez Musharraf was a security risk to the country and he has failed to deliver the goods during the eight years of his reign.

Addressing a press conference here, Mr Magsi said that free and fair elections under President Musharraf rule was a myth and nobody was going to believe him as he had lost trust of the people by removing judges of the superior courts and by detaining the lawyers.

He said a sense of deprivation prevailed in Sindh and full-fledged autonomy is the only solution to all problems.

He said the assassination of Ms Benazir Bhutto was an eye-opener for the people of Sindh.

He lauded the role of Ms Benazir Bhutto for democracy.

Suicide bombing was a gift of the Musharraf government and before them it was unknown to Pakistanis, he said.

JUI: Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam leader Dr Khalid Mehmood Soomro has said that Feb 18 would prove to be the last day for President Pervez Musharraf and his cronies’ rule.

He said the Musharraf government had only created crises during their rule in the country.

Speaking at a corner meeting in Thul, he said if their party came to power, it would eliminate poverty, price hike and unemployment from the country.
