KARACHI: Opposition councillors observe hunger strike

By Our Staff Reporter

KARACHI, Feb 6: Opposition councillors in the City Council on Wednesday launched their mobilisation campaign against what they called “injustices of the city district government” and to highlight the problems being faced by people in their union councils.

They started the campaign by observing a five-hour token hunger strike, in which the UC nazims and councillors, including women belonging to different opposition groups in the City Council, participated to protest against the CDGK for “blocking the development funds of opposition UCs.”

The hunger strike camp, set up outside the Karachi Press Club, started at noon and ended at 5pm.

It was attended by the opposition UC nazims and general councillors and women councillors elected on reserved seats representing the Awam Dost, Al-Khidmat, Khidmatgar, Al-Khadim and Watan Dost panels.

Carrying banners and placards in support of their demand for the restoration of the UC fund, the hunger strikers raised slogans against the city nazim and criticized his “biased attitude” towards opposition councillors.

Talking to newsmen in the camp, Saeed Ghani and Rafiq Ahmed attacked the nazim for “making false claims” regarding the development of the city.
