DERA GHAZI KHAN, Jan 16: The process of issuance of postal ballot papers is yet to be completed in this district while a large number of applications for such a facility are pending with the authorities concerned, sources told Dawn on Wednesday.

The sources, who wished not to be named, said that the process had been completed in the neighbouring Rajanpur and Muzaffargarh districts under the previous schedule contemplating polls on Jan 8, while it was yet to be completed in DG Khan and Layyah districts despite the election authorities had received 2,202 and 1,219 applications, respectively.

In Dera Ghazi Khan, 352 people applied for postal ballots from NA-173, PP-243 and PP-246 constituencies, 825 from NA-172, PP-244 and PP-245 and 1,025 from NA- 171, PP-240 and PP-241. The process of rejection or acceptance of these applications was yet to be carried out, the sources added.

Similarly, 122 applications from NA-181, PP-262, PP-263 and PP-264 and 1,097 from NA-182, PP-265 and PP-266 are pending with Layyah election authorities.

In Rajanpur, 498 applications have been accepted out of 725 applications from NA 174 and provincial constituencies falling under it while 890 out of 1,115 applications have been accepted from the neighbouring constituencies of the district.

In Muzaffargarh, 353 applications from NA-176, PP-251 and PP-253 have been accepted, 45 applications have been accepted out of 172 applications from NA-177, PP-252 and PP-255, 112 out of 115 have been accepted from NA-178, PP-254 and PP-256 and 1,178 applications have been accepted out of 1,526 from NA-179, PP-252, PP-258 and PP-259, the sources added.
