Kuwait urges US to free its prisoners

By Our Correspondent

KUWAIT CITY, Jan 12: Kuwait has called on the United States of America to release its remaining four prisoners held at the Guantanamo Bay following the its invasion of Afghanistan after the 9/11.

The Kuwaiti call came shortly after the US President George W Bush arrived here on Friday on a two day state visit. In 2005 & 2006, eight of the detainees were returned to Kuwait where they were charged, tried and cleared by the Kuwaiti courts.

Kuwait’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Dr Mohammad Sabah Al Salem Al Sabah has said in a statement that President Bush has promised to seriously take into consideration Kuwait’s request for the return of its four citizens.
