SAHIWAL, Dec 30: Activists of the PPP and PML-N on Sunday took out a joint protest rally from Jinnah Street to condemn Benazir Bhutto’s murder.
The protesters reached Mazdoor Pulli after marching through the city bazaars where Qul of the late PPP leader was held.
Among the participants were PPP’s Mehr Ghulam Farid Kathia, Ali Nawaz Bhatti, Tahir Sindhu, Muhammad Zaki Chaudhry, Amjad Husain and PML-N’s Pir Imran Wali Shah.
At College Chowk, shops were closed after hearing that the procession was reaching there. While partial strike was observed in the rest of the city. Light to heavy transport was also seen in the afternoon on the GT Road. Petrol pumps remained closed throughout the day.
CASES: The Dera Rahim police on Sunday registered cases against prayer leaders for condemning the government over the issue.
Those booked were: Hafiz Abdul Aleem of Chak 150/9-L, Qari Talib Hussain of Chak 101/9-L, Hafiz Imran of Chak 98/9-L and Maulvi Ghulam Rasool of Chak 100/9-L.
Cases have been registered against them under the Amplifier Act. Police have so far booked 22 prayer leaders.
INJURED: Two persons were injured on Sunday when gunmen opened fire on a PPP rally in Block-2 in Chichawatni.
Reports said that the injured, Rashid and Muhammad Naeem, were admitted to a hospital where their condition was stated to be serious.
