KARACHI, Dec 30: The city government on Sunday started removing wreckages of burnt vehicles and other debris from city roads and for this purpose a work force of about 500 had been put on job along with heavy machinery under the supervision of the EDO municipal services.
Meanwhile, City Nazim Syed Mustafa Kamal visited various parts of the city. Talking to people on the occasion, he said the city government had started a survey to assess the damage caused to public and private properties during the violence.
After compiling reports of the survey, the government would be able to recommended payment of compensation to the affected people, he said.
“It was a big tragedy and every one was shocked and grieved,” the nazim said, adding that whatever happened in the city over the past few days was not something done by any political workers.
“PPP workers are shocked and grieved and in such a state, no one can indulge in snatching of purses and cellphones,” he remarked. He said such activities must have been resorted to by some anti-state elements who did not want the country to make progress.—APP
