BADR: Pakistan People’s Party Secretary-General Jehangir Badr has called upon President Pervez Musharraf to get rid of political ‘mercenaries’ serving him as caretakers who are creating conditions similar to the French Revolution in the country.
Addressing a news conference at the Lahore Press Club on Thursday, he said the president was promising fair and free elections by the caretakers who were victimising political opponents of the government-sponsored PML-Q and using state resources for influencing the results of general elections in favour of its candidates.
He said curbs had been imposed on the media and economic problems were being created in the form of flour shortage and increase in gas and power prices to counter the wave of political awareness among the people.
He said: “Fair elections will not be possible if the caretakers continue to act the way they are doing at present.”
