LAHORE, Dec 12: The 2nd Royal Palm Amateur Team Trophy and Challenge Shield contest commences from Friday at the Royal Palm golf club. All golf clubs in Pakistan are allowed to send two teams each in the three-day competition which ends on Sunday.

The event has been reinstated since 2006 after it was abandoned in 2000 from its former location at the Railways Golf Course.

Each team, comprising four players, will submit the three lowest gross scores on each day of play, which would then be counted towards the final overall team total at the end of three days’ tournament.

It is expected of last year’s winning team Lahore Gymkhana to once again send a strong team in the form of Pakistan’s national representatives Aadil and Danyial Janghir and the experienced Imran Ahmed and Murad Khan.

Meanwhile, Pakistan Golf Federation secretary Taimur Hassan will be leading the way for the equally competitive team from the Islamabad Golf Club, in the company of Tariq Mehmood, Shahid Gulrez and Abbas Mirza.

Host club Royal Palm Golf and Country Club too must be confident of a strong finish with captain Shoaib Bukhari leading the team, which also has Waqar Saigol, Sadar Murad and Mohammad Rehman.

Other clubs expected to show some presence during the tournament are Jehlum, Lahore Garrison, Okara Garrison, Lyallpur, Peshawar, Gujranwala, Abbottabad and Karachi Club.

Running in conjunction with the main Team Trophy will be the Gross Cup.
