National Clay Court Tennis begins


ISLAMABAD, Nov 26: The Subh-e-Nau National Clay Court Tennis Championship commenced here at Islamabad Club Courts on Monday with more than ten foreign players competing in the event their entries for the different categories.

A total of 42 qualifying matches were played on the opening day after the championship

Thev organisers told the media that a few Thai, Canadian and English players have also given their entries to participate in the event. She said that an unexpected good response has made this event an international gala.

In men’s singles category, eight players qualified for main round to compete the seeded players like Aqeel Khan and Jalil Khan. In boys U-17 category also eight players qualified for the next round to compete with seniors.

Main round of this seven-day tennis gala will start today (Tuesday). Featuring eight categories, the tennis event carries a prize purse of Rupees two hundred thousand. The championship will culminate on December 2.

In today’s play, Aqeel Khan and Jalil khan will be in action in men’s singles category while Sara Mansoor, Natasha, Qurat-ul-Ain will be playing in ladies singles.—Agencies
