KARACHI, Oct 27: President Gen Pervez Musharraf has promulgated an ordinance giving degree-awarding status to the Dawood College of Engineering and Technology, DCET Principal Prof Dr Mohammad Nasim said here on Saturday.
He said that with the promulgation of the ordinance, the college had become able to start its delayed admissions for the year 2007 and conduct examinations of 142 engineering students affected by a decision of the NED University of Engineering and Technology.
He said the college was beginning the admission process for 2007 this month and an advertisement in this regard was also being released to newspapers on Sunday.
He said that senate, syndicate and academic councils of the college would soon hold a high-level meeting to take the case of the 142 students affected by the NED university decision and conduct an examination of the papers in which they had failed.
“The students of various batches, including 91-92 to 95-96, should not worry now, as their lingering problem has been solved. We are fully committed to holding their examinations within a month. Their academic career ruined by the NED university would be restored soon.”
The principal said the promulgation of the ordinance was made possible after hectic struggle and efforts of students and the present college administration. The media also played a vital role in highlighting the issue, he said. “It is a great milestone in the engineering education history. We thank the president for the promulgation of the ordinance, which will play a vital role in boosting the engineering sector,” Dr Nasim said.
He said that to save the future of the 142 students affected by the decision of the NED university, they would be provided a chance by holding a special examination after holding “crash classes” for them.—PPI
