KARACHI: Chinese CG condoles with Benazir

By Our Reporter

KARACHI, Oct 26: The Consul General of China in Karachi, Mr Chen Shanmin, on Friday called on PPP chairperson and former prime minister Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto at Bilawal House and condemned the Oct 18 bomb attack on her rally in Karachi.

The envoy, on behalf of the Chinese leadership, offered condolences over the death of 140 people and deep sympathies and regards for the injured.

Mr Chen Shanmin recalled the great contributions the governments of Benazir Bhutto and her father had made towards the strengthening of relations between China and Pakistan which he characterised as “special”.

Political leaders

Provincial leaders of the Awami National Party (ANP) on Friday called on PPP Chairperson Benazir Bhutto and offered their condolences on the huge loss of life in the Oct 18 bomb blasts in the PPP’s welcome rally. They expressed solidarity with the PPP and sympathy with the bereaved families.

The ANP delegation was led by Shahi Syed.

Separately, an ARD team comprising Basharat Mirza, Mufti Firozuddin Hazarvi, Amanullah Khan and others also met the PPP chairperson to express their condolences on the tragic death of a large number of PPP supporters.

After the meeting, the ANP and ARD leaders told reporters that they were very much concerned over the steep rise in the terrorist attacks many of which targeted against political leaders. They observed that terrorists were trying to impose their will on people but the government had failed to apprehend them.
