RAHIM YAR KHAN, Oct 20: Steps like convening of a Multi-Party Conference will not be beneficial for a strong political system till Gen Pervez Musharraf remains in power.

This was said by MMA leader Liaquat Baloch while speaking at a press conference here on Saturday.

He said: “Shujaat Husain has telephoned me for the MPC.”

Mr Baloch said the central committee meeting of MMA would decide on participation of the alliance in the MPC.

He said the country was passing through a critical phase of political crisis and Gen Pervez Musharraf wanted to be in power.

He said Benazir Bhutto had arrived in Pakistan after a deal with the military dictator.

He said sacrifices of PPP activists were not for democracy and restoration of the Constitution but for the personal interests of the dictator and Benazir Bhutto.

Rescue 1122: Chief Minister Pervaiz Elahi will formally inaugurate the Pakistan’s first trained emergency medical, rescue and fire service (Rescue 1122) station in the district today (Sunday).

Kicking off in Lahore in 2003 as a pilot project, the Rescue 1122 was approved for 11 districts of Punjab as extension. A bill was unanimously passed and it was named emergency services bill in the Punjab Assembly session in June 2006.

In October 2006, this project was started on the advice of the chief minister and it will cost Rs130 million. The construction work started on March 8 and is completing today. Its test run began on Oct 5 last.

Punjab Emergency services (Rescue 1122) local chapter in-charge Dr Adil Rehman said it was a free service for road accidents, fire cases, blasts, building collapse and any medical emergency. The team comprised a district emergency officer, three emergency officers, an assistant station in-charge, 14 emergency medical technicians, 18 fire rescuers, two computer operators, two telephone operators and 14 drivers.

Pledging to provide invaluable service to the people, he requested them not to make prank calls.
