Dawn Report

NAWABSHAH, Oct 20: Atmosphere in many villages and towns of the province became sad as bodies from Thursday’s suicide blasts in Karachi began to arrive there on Saturday.

“I am critically injured, bleeding profusely from arms and legs and am being taken to hospital. Take care of parents because I will die soon,” were the last words spoken to his sister on cell phone by Abdul Wahab Bhatti, 19, at about 1:20am on Friday before he breathed his last.

Abdul Wahab had left for Karachi from Nawabshah with thousands of other workers and supporters of Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) who were going to the metropolis to welcome their leader Benazir Bhutto.

“My son sacrificed his life for democracy, for Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto,” said a visibly sad Mohammad Kabil after the burial of his son late Abdul Wahab in ancestral graveyard in Golimar.

He said that Abdul Wahab was a great admirer of Benazir Bhutto. He was working at a medicine distribution company for a salary of Rs1,700 a month. Three other PPP activists from Nawabshah, Allah Ditto Zardari, 35, an active worker and office-bearer of the party, Zohaib Jamali, 25, and Shakeel Ali Buriro, 23, were also laid to rest in Shah Inayat, Wasayo Jamali and Haji Pir Buriro villages.

In Shikarpur, body of Suhail Ahmed Durrani, son of Shahnawaz Khan Durrani, who was killed in blasts was brought to his native place in Garhi Yasin late on Friday night. He was laid to rest in Pir Qasim Shah Graveyard on Saturday morning.

A large number of local party leaders, workers and general public attended the funeral.

In Khairpur, two bodies of party workers, Punhal Katbar, 18, and Allah Dino Menghwar who were killed in blasts were brought to their native villages on Saturday night.

Body of Punhal Katbar was brought to Khuhra taluka Gambat and his funeral prayers were offered on Saturday in which a large number of party workers, traders and general public took part. According to late Katbar’s relatives, Punhal’s brother Mushtaq Katbar who had accompanied him to Karachi was still missing.

The body of another man, Allah Dino Menghwar, was brought to his village Tando Shah in Kot Diji taluka on Saturday night. His funeral prayers were offered on Saturday in Tando Shah village.

In Mirpurkhas four bodies of PPP supporters who died in Thursday’s blasts in Karachi in were brought to Chhachhro taluka on Saturday morning.
