LAHORE, Oct 12: Veteran batsman Inzamam-ul-Haq, defending his show of aggression with the bat in his last Test innings on Friday, said he had planned to launch an attack on the South African bowlers in a bid to earn an improbable win for Pakistan in his last appearance but it could not pay off.

“I wanted to earn a memorable win for my country today but it was not to be.” Talking about his falling short of Miandad’s all-time record of Test runs for Pakistan, Inzi said: “I have always had great respect for Javed Miandad and if this record stays with him I will still feel proud.”

Inzamam played 120 Test matches for Pakistan, scoring 8830 runs at an average of 50.07 with 25 centuries and 46 half-centuries besides holding 81 catches.

His ODI career comprises 378 matches, 11739 runs, including 10 centuries and 83 fifties and he held 113 catches.
