Benazir’s security plan discussed

By Our Staff Reporter

KARACHI, Oct 12: A high-level meeting held here on Friday reviewed security measures taken to provide fool-proof security to Pakistan People’s Party chairperson Benazir Bhutto on her arrival in Karachi on October 18.

The meeting, presided over by Home Secretary Brig (retd) Mohatrem, is reported to have discussed the route of Ms Bhutto’s procession from airport to Bilawal House via the Mausoleum of Quaid-i-Azam where she is scheduled to address a public meeting on Sharah-i-Quaideen.

According to official sources, PPP’s security cell in charge Maj-Gen (retd) Ehsan and members of the cell Dr Zulfikar Mirza, Agha Siraj Durrani and Rashid Rabbani expressed satisfaction over the arrangements.

The sources said a ‘code of conduct’ was also decided at the meeting, under which there would be no display of weapons or any firing in the air. Besides, they added, objectionable slogans would not be raised nor would there be any wall chalking.

However, the sources said, in view of the uncertain situation prevailing in the country, the PPP representatives expressed apprehensions about security of the party chief. The government assured them that all necessary measures were being taken for security inside and outside the airport, they added.
