KARACHI, Oct 11: A 28-year-old man was shot dead on Thursday by bandits who wanted to rob him of his cash and cellular phone near Star Gate on Sharea Faisal, police and ambulance sources said.

An Edhi ambulance shifted the victim to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre where he was identified as Zulfiqar Ali, a resident of the old Sabzi Mandi area.

Sources said the victim had succumbed to his wounds shortly after his arrival at the JPMC.

Airport police said the victim, a manager of a printing firm, was going to Landhi in his car when bandits intercepted him near Ali Medical Complex. A case against unknown bandits has been lodged by the victim’s brother, Shahzad Faisal.

Gangster shot dead

A bullet-riddled body was found in Ali Mohammad Brohi Goth, Ibrahim Haideri, on Thursday.

Police identified the victim as Rizwan, 30, son of Abdur Rehman, and said he was a criminal wanted by the Landhi and Quaidabad police in several cases. His younger brother, Farhan, was also in jail, they added.

The police suspected involvement of rival gangsters in his murder.

The body was shifted to the JPMC where sources said the victim had received six bullets in his upper torso.

Two killed in accidents

A 30-year-old motorcyclist was killed by a hit-and-run vehicle near Angoori Bridge on Super Highway on Thursday. His body was shifted to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital where he was identified as Imran, a resident of Kathore.

Another hit-and-run vehicle killed an unidentified man near Malang Hotel, Banaras Colony, on Manghopir Road.

The body was shifted to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital where sources said the victim was in his mid-50s. Later, the body was sent to the Edhi morgue for identification.

82 mobile phones taken away

Bandits and thieves took away 82 cellular phones, 48 motorcycles and 10 cars in different parts of the city on Thursday. In 21 hold-ups, outlaws held their victims at gunpoint and robbed them of 28 mobiles phones, six motorcycles and five cars. In most of the incidents, they also deprived the victims of their cash and jewelry.
