PESHAWAR, Oct 7: The Frontier Corps has rebutted reports about abduction of 28 paramilitary soldiers in Spinwam areas of North Waziristan on Saturday.

A spokesman for the Frontier Corps said no such incident had taken place. “This deliberate disinformation is part of the baseless propaganda perpetrated by militants and their supports to hide the unexpected reverses suffered by them in recent days,” he said.

“No soldier of either Tochi or Thall Scouts was taken hostage in Spinwam where, contrary to reports, all attacks on Army/FC posts were effectively repulsed, inflicting heavy losses on the miscreants,” he added.

The spokesman clarified that abductions of Police Constabulary personnel from Rucha Qilla on October 1, 2007 might have been misconstrued as abductions of Frontier Corps soldiers.

He said that the last few days had seen the tide turning against miscreant activity in the area, largely due to the heroic actions undertaken by the army and Frontier Corps soldiers.

“The resilience demonstrated by our troops has been worthy of praise, particularly on posts like Banda, Amin, Qamar, Dhallar, Thall, Mirali and Tarkhobi where all attempts by the miscreants were foiled, inflicting large number of casualties.

“To restore their sinking morale, the militants have now resorted to rumour-mongering, which has nevertheless found wide but misguiding circulation in the media,” he added.
