Accord signed with British Telecom

By Jamal Shahid

ISLAMABAD, Sept 30: The British Telecom in collaboration with Saigols (Pvt) Ltd and Samin will bring international exposure and expertise to the country and capitalise on various opportunities in the field of media comprising television, radio and internet/satellite services in Pakistan.

A memorandum of understanding was signed on Sunday at the Prime Minister House by M. Azam Saigol, managing director, Saigols (Pvt) Ltd, and Paul Falkner, general manager (Africa and Middle East) of British Telecom.

The two groups have now entered into a cooperation agreement that marks a new era in networked IT services, telecommunication services and higher-value broadband/internet product and services benefiting not just the two companies but also the people.

“The two sides together will put in an estimated Rs3 billion in the eight to nine projects that the groups will undertake,” said Azizur Rehman, group general manager of Saigol Group.

Adnan Jamil, director, BT, said Pakistan Direct to Home (DTH) was one of the first projects the two groups would initiate. “This MoU does not limit the two companies to the DTH programme, but in fact widens the scope to progressively work together in the IT sector as well as provide turnkey solutions in the ongoing media revolution in the country.”
