LAHORE, Sept 30: Fast food, smoking and excessive use of ghee are among the
main causes increasing heart problems, according to health experts.
They said this at a conference organised by the Pakistan Medical Society (PMS)
and the Health Department on Sunday to mark World Heart Day.
PMS Chairman Dr Masood Akhter Sheikh, Prof Nadim Hayat Malik of the Punjab
Institute of Cardiology, Dr Salman Razaq, Dr Ziaur Rehman and Prof Tehmina Zafar
were among the speakers. Former Fatima Jinnah Medical College principal Prof
Akbar Chaudhry presided over the conference.
Prof Akbar said a regular walk, use of oil and avoiding smoking could help
control heart problems.
Dr Sheikh said that an increase in allocations to check heart-relate diseases in
the health budget had become essential.
He said heart problems should be given importance in the national health policy
due to increasing heart diseases in society.
