KARACHI : Clinton Foundation office in city soon: nazim

KARACHI, Sept 30: The Clinton Foundation will establish its permanent office in Karachi, Bill Clinton, a former US president, was quoted by City Nazim Syed Mustafa Kamal as saying.

Mr Kamal, who called on Mr Clinton during his recent visit to the United States in connection with the Clinton Foundation’s conference, said that Mr Clinton also accepted his invitation to visit Karachi. The visit will take place soon, the nazim told reporters after returning home from New York on Sunday.

The conference was attended by US presidential candidate Hillary Clinton, former British prime minister Tony Blair and dignitaries from more than 80 countries, he said.

Mr Kamal said he apprised Mr Clinton of the situation obtaining in Pakistan, particularly Karachi, and the massive development work currently under way across the metropolis. Greater Karachi Sewerage Plan S-III also came under the discussion, he added.

“Mr Clinton appreciated the project and observed that it would bring about improvement in public health sector besides helping in elimination of environmental pollution,” the nazim said.

He said that the former US president was of the view that Karachi had gained significant importance and was attracting investors from around the world.

Mr Kamal said he also held meetings with other delegates of the conference and apprised them of the ongoing development projects in Karachi with special reference to the CDGK’s initiative to redevelop the city’s infrastructure on modern lines.

He said he addressed the US business community and invited them to visit and make investments in the metropolis, which had now become one of the most investment-worthy city of the region.
