MIRPURKHAS, Sept 23: Protest against the Hyderabad Electric Supply Company continued in different parts of Sindh on Sunday as people had to face unannounced power loadshedding.

Hundreds took of people out a rally in Mirwah Gorchani to protest against loadshedding being carried out in the town for three to five hours on daily basis. The protesters, led by engineer Ehsanul Haq and carrying banners and placards, marched through main roads of the town and raised slogans against the area officials of Hesco.

Speaking to the protesters at the main roundabout of the town, Mr Haq and others said that the Hesco officials were resorting to loadshedding to cover line losses. They held executive engineer, operation, Mirpurkhas, responsible for loadshedding and called upon the Hesco chief to take notice of the matter and ensure regular supply of power to the town.

Our Naushahro Feroze correspondent adds: Residents of ward-4 of Bhirya Road town took out a rally from the town’s railway station to Farooq Chowk where they staged a sit-in, burnt tyres and blocked roads in protest against loadshedding.

They complained that the transformer of ward-4 had gone out of order on Saturday and despite several complaints, the Hesco officials had neither got it repaired nor replaced it. As a result, they added, the residents were in a miserable condition in hot weather.

They appealed to the Hesco authorities to take notice of the situation and ensure installation of a new transformer without further delay, and warned of continuing protest otherwise.

Our Shikarpur correspondent adds: A trader was killed when he fell from the upper storey of his house in Thathara Street Lakhi Gate here on Saturday night.

Akbar Ali Channa, a grain merchant, after offering Taraveh prayers at a mosque came to his house and went to the top of the roof for sleeping.

As there was darkness due to unannounced load-shedding, he slipped and fell from upper storey on the floor.

The man died on the spot.
