Judge extends remand of accused: Newly born’s kidnap

HYDERABAD, Sept 20: The civil judge and judicial magistrate-X on Thursday remanded four accused including two women for five more days in police custody. They face charges of kidnapping a three-day baby, Dua, from a hospital in Hussainabad more than a month ago.
The court remanded Safia, Nasir, Rafiq Jadoogar and Jamila Oad in police custody while the investigating officer submitted an application seeking release of the accused Karima, Kausar, Nasir Abbas, Ali Hassan alias Guddu and Javed Iqbal on grounds that they had been cleared in investigation.
Police had not been able to trace a woman, Amna Oad, in Karachi who was believed to be in possession of the baby sold to her by Safia.
Safia has already confessed that she had sold the baby for Rs15,000 to Amna.
CONTEMPT: The in-charge sessions judge on Thursday directed the SHO of Bhittai Nagar police station to appear in court on Sept 29 over disobeying court orders regarding registration of FIR.
The judge had directed police a day before to lodge an FIR against an alleged encounter, in which Barkat Brohi said that his brother Fateh Mohammad Brohi was gunned down.
The complainant, who was represented by Khuda Bux Leghari advocate, said that he had been requesting the SHO to register FIR but he was doing so. The counsel said that police were wilfully disobeying court’s order.
Meanwhile, Mureed Khaskheli, who was with late Fateh Mohammad Brohi in the same encounter and had escaped allegedly, filed an application with in-charge sessions judge, claiming that he was being harassed by police.
He said that he was an employee of Sui Southern Gas Company but police were harassing him and showing him as co-accused in the case.
The court issued notices to DPO, SP investigations, investigating officer of the case, ASI Arbab Khuman, who had been cited as respondents in the application.
