MIRPURKHAS, Sept 20: The chairman of the Farmers Organisations Council, Javed Ahmed Junejo, has accused the irrigation officials of victimising the growers whose lands are irrigated by Nara Canal by decreasing water flow from 14,800 cusec to 8,000 cusec at the head of the canal.
In a statement to press, Mr Junejo said that according to a decision made by farmers of the area, he had submitted written complaints as chairman of FOC to the Chief Justice Iftikhar Mohammed Chaudhry and other higher authorities to seek justice and save agriculture sector of Sindh.
He said that acute shortage of water had been created in Jamrao, Mithrao and Thar canals fed by Nara Canal causing heavy losses to the growers whose standing crops of cotton, onion, sugarcane and vegetables were withering away due to lack of water.
He alleged that irrigation officials had created artificial shortage in canals to pressurise the farmers not to complain against officials who had illegally chopped trees along the banks of canals.
PROTEST: Three to five hours long spells of power outage continued in different sub-divisions of Hesco operations Mirpurkhas causing inconvenience to people.
People of the area complained that power supply went off particularly during nights and deplored that even in Ramazan, Hesco officials were deliberately suspending power supply to cover up line losses.
They demanded that the chairman of Wapda take notice and ensure the consumers received regular supply of power.
