KARACHI : ‘Mishandling’ of grenade blamed for Malir blast

By Our Staff Reporter

KARACHI, Sept 7: An explosion that left 17 people wounded, one of them critically, in the Malir area on late Thursday night was caused by what police described as “mishandling” of a hand-grenade by one of the victims.

The Shah Faisal Town SP said it was not an act of terrorism, but the men sitting at a teashop were carrying the hand-grenade which went off due to its mishandling. The SP confirmed that most of the injured belonged to the Punjabi-Pakhtun Ittahad or the Punjabi Students Association.

However, an FIR has been registered by Shah Faisal Colony police against unknown persons.

The injured are being treated at the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre. The critically injured person, identified as Qaiser alias Kaku, was shifted to a private hospital for treatment.
