KARACHI, Sept 7: The judicial magistrate, South, Aurangzeb Alamgir Qazi, on Friday remanded two under trail prisoners who were arrested soon after their escape from the custody of police in the City Courts on Sept 5.

Yar Mohammed, son of Moang; Bilal, son of Naushay; and Mohammed Asif, son of Akhtar; have been facing trial in a dacoity case since 2005. The Anti-Car Lifting Cell in Gulshan-i-Iqbal police station had registered the case against the three accused under Section 392/34 of the Pakistan Penal Code.

On Sept 5, they were brought in a chain to the City Courts by police constables Qadeer and Shakeel, to be produced before a senior civil judge and assistant session, judge.

The policemen told Dawn that they were threatened by the UTPs and two armed outsiders in a room on the court premises. “Since we were unarmed as per the court rules, they made us surrender at gunpoint,” they said, adding that they cut the chain with a large cutter which they had kept hidden.

One of the accused, Mohammed Asif, escaped while Yar Mohammed and Bilal were later apprehended on the court premises.
