KARACHI: Order on SMC students’ bail plea reserved

By A Reporter

KARACHI, Sept 1: The additional district and sessions judge-III, South, Sultan Mohammad Awan, on Saturday reserved his order on the bail application of 17 students, allegedly involved in a recent clash at the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre.

The judge fixed Sept 5 for the pronouncement of his order.

Defence counsel Mohammad Sarwar appeared on behalf of the students belonging to the Islami Jamiat Talaba (IJT). In his arguments, he said that at the time of arrest, the students were busy reciting the Quran in a local mosque.

He said that the police had arrested them with mala fide intentions and they had nothing to do with the clash.

The students had been remanded in judicial custody by the judicial magistrate-1, South, Aurangzeb Alamgir Qazi, on Aug 28.
