HYDERABAD: Dist govt to renovate historical schools

HYDERABAD, Aug 22: District Coordination Officer Aftab Ahmed Khatri said on Tuesday that the district government would renovate historical educational institutions of the city under the Annual Development Programme.
Mr Khatri said while presiding over a meeting at the Public School that a PC-I at an estimated cost of Rs20 million had been prepared for the uplift of the school and the district government would hire services of consultants to ensure the uplift work was carried out efficiently.
Besides, the district nazim would recommend the Sindh government to direct the Project Implementation Committee to supervise development works and ensure that the funds were being utilised in a transparent manner.
He said that under the uplift scheme repairs would be carried out and the existing buildings and roads of the school would be renovated and modern labs would be established.
The DCO directed the school’s management to form a permanent in-house experts committee to oversee the development and technical activities of the school.
He asked the principal to revise downwards the fee structure in order to encourage poor and talented students and directed him to prepare a proposal in consultation with the EDO of education for shifting the school’s surplus staff to other schools. Mr Khatri took serious notice of the disposal of sewage into the school’s ground and directed the managing director of Wasa to divert sewage towards other sewerage lines on emergency basis.
He asked the EDO of education to prepare another PC-I for the repair, renovation and uplift of Noor Muhammad High School, which he said was a legacy of Hyderabad’s history.
The DCO accompanied by chairman of the Finance and Planning Committee, Q. Hakim and EDO of education paid surprise visits to different government schools in Wahdat Colony and GOR Colony and directed the EDO to take action against absentee teachers.
The DCO said on the occasion that after the implementation of District Education Plan, the city would become a model district of the country in the field of education.
TEACHERS’ TRAINING: A meeting chaired by District Nazim Kanwar Naveed Jamil at his office on Tuesday decided to provide three-month training to 100 teachers to enable them to teach in newly-converted English medium schools.
The nazim said that the district government planned to provide English medium education to the poor children who could not afford studying in private institutions.
He stressed the need for providing quality education to the children and said that the teachers’ selection would start from Sept 1 and continue till 15th. The primary teachers’ training would start from Sept 16 at the Public School under the first pilot project in the province by the National Council for Human Development (NCHD).
The nazim appreciated the training programme and said that the district government would establish computer labs in 20 high schools of the district this year.
The NCHD General Manager Sohail Rajput assured that the training would be completed as per schedule, while Muhammad Ali Millwal of Sim 4 Com briefed the meeting about teaching and training programme.
