HYDERABAD, Aug 20: District Nazim Kanwar Naveed Jamil has said that the district government is making efforts to rehabilitate physical infrastructure of Qasimabad taluka which has been destroyed by builder mafia.
Speaking at inaugural ceremony of sewerage lines in Qasimabad union council-II, he said that the district government had allocated Rs400 million to improve sewerage system of Qasimabad talka and tens of millions of rupees for its health and education sectors.
Mr Jamil said that without any planning, the builders had constructed multi-storey buildings and, in the process, destroyed the infrastructure, adding that the erstwhile rulers were equally responsible for the situation since they had given free hand to the builder mafia.
He said that the biggest problem confronting Qasimabad was collapse of its sewerage system and the district government was spending Rs400 million to revive it.
Giving details, he said that Rs80 million was being spent on the laying of sewerage lines from the polytechnic college to Sheedi Goth pumping station and from Marvi town to Citizen colony, Rs10 million on sewerage lines beneath Shaikh Ayaz Road, Rs80 million on Sheedi goth pumping station and rising main and Rs35 million on the laying of pressure line to dispose of rain water from Ali Palace to Indus river.
The district nazim said that millions of rupees were being spent on water supply network in different areas of Qasimabad taluka.
To provide health cover to the residence of Qasimabad, surgical, cardiac and ENT wards were being added to the district government hospital at a cost of Rs60 million, he said and added that a 10-bed hospital would be opened in Sehrish Nagar this year.
Mr Jamil said that 10 schools were under construction in Qasimabad taluka and high schools in the taluka would be equipped with computer labs this year.
Hyderabad Development Authority Director-General Altaf Hussain Memon, Secretary Shoukat Hayat Bhutto, Water and Sanitation Agency Managing Director Abdul Maalik Khatri and councillors and people of the area were present on the occasion.
