KARACHI: Control of Flag Staff House: hearing fixed for Sept 10

KARACHI, Aug 20: Chief Justice Sabihuddin Ahmed of the Sindh High Court on Monday issued notices to the DAG and DG of the Archaeology department and other respondents for Sept 10, 2007 on a petition filed by Liaquat Merchant, the Quaid-i-Azam’s grand nephew. The applicant has called for the setting up of a committee for the management, administration and control of the Quaid-i-Azam Museum (Flag Staff House), Karachi.

The petition was filed as a follow-up to an earlier application for the cancellation of the sale of the property to the government in pursuance of an SHC order.

Mr Merchant, who is administrator of the Quaid’s property in Pakistan, in his 1997 application claimed that the government had failed to utilise the property for the purposes specified in the court order and the sale deed.—PPI
