KARACHI, Aug 19: The All Parties Democratic Lawyers Forum on Saturday announced that the lawyers’ community would launch a movement against President General Pervez Musharraf as he was not acceptable to them even if he doffed the uniform.

A meeting of the APDLF was held with the president of Pakistan Muslim League-N Lawyers’ Wing, Sindh, Arshad Jadoon Khan, in the chair at his office.

The participants said that they had not invited the lawyers associated with the Pakistan People’s Party as Benazir Bhutto was reportedly busy striking deals with President Musharraf.

The speakers said that the lawyers would continue their struggle to restore the constitution in its real form, adding that it was the duty of the Supreme Court to take action under Article 6 of the constitution against all those who had violated the constitution.

They also discussed various issues pertaining to voters’ lists, re-opening of NAB cases against the Sharif family, the traffic problem in Karachi, lawlessness, unemployment and incidents of terrorism in the country. The lawyers charged that the rulers were targeting their political opponents.

Through various unanimously approved resolutions, the lawyers made several demands including an impartial interim national set-up consisting of patriotic persons from all the four provinces which could arrange free and fair elections in the country.

They also urged President Musharraf to tender resignation. They pledged to contest cases of poor people free of cost. They also condoled the death of Arshad Jadoon Khan’s father and prayed for the departed soul.
