BANNU, Aug 12: Enraged by unrelenting spell of power outages, people on Sunday afternoon ransacked Wapda’s local office and reduced all the record and furniture to ashes.
They also resorted to aerial firing and forced shopkeepers to pull their shutters down.
Thousands of consumers representing Barazai, Mandev and Nurar tribes raced to the city after 15-km journey on foot.
They burned tyres on roads and attacked the three-storey Wapda building to show their anger over what they called the unannounced loadshedding. Firing continued for couple of hours.
They called for an end to 16 hours per day loadshedding. Police made attempts to overcome the situation but in vain.
Elders of the protesting tribesmen also tried to persuade the agitators to end the violent protest. The protesters said that they had reminded Wapda of their problems time and again, but their requests had fallen on deaf ears.
