KARACHI, Aug 8: The Maritime Security Agency on Wednesday issued a weather warning advising fishermen not to proceed to sea from August 9 to 12, says PPI.
It said a persistent deep depression over the Indian Gujarat coast, presently moving in a westerly direction, is expected to reach the North Arabian Sea on Aug 9 and will intensify further on Aug 10 and 11, in its general direction towards the Balochistan coast.
A red alert has been declared in the relevant departments of the city government ahead of a forecast of thunderstorms with heavy rains in the metropolis, adds our staff reporter.
Special arrangements were being made for the safety of people living in the coastal areas.
The city government is also setting up rescue camps in the coastal and low-lying areas to cope with any eventuality.
In case of any rain-related problem, people were asked to contact the emergency complaint centre in their respective towns or call 0800-12012 and 923-2434.
City Nazim Mustafa Kamal directed the municipal services department to make available all heavy machinery including pumping machines, de-watering equipment and vehicles at all emergency centres.
In the awake of expected rains and windstorm alerts, Sindh Chief Minister Dr Arbab Ghulam Rahim on Wednesday issued directives to the DCOs of all districts to take precautionary measures, particularly in the coastal areas, to avert any losses.
He said a 24-hour surveillance of canals and branch canals would be carried out.—PPI
