Pakistan fifth in hockey rankings

Published August 8, 2007

ISLAMABAD, Aug 7: Pakistan is placed fifth in the latest world men's field hockey rankings. With 1,810 points compared to 2,391 of table-toppers Holland, Pakistan takes its position behind Holland, Australia, Spain and Germany.

In compiling the world rankings, the international field hockey tournaments including qualification tournaments and the previous four years' international results are weighed in points calculation.

The tournaments used for points calculation are the Olympic Games, World Cup, Champions Trophy, Champions Challenge and Continental Championships. If the main tournament has a qualification tournament, its results will also be used in the ranking.

Pakistan has failed to enter the semi-final stage of the last three Olympics and as many World Cups.—APP
