JUI to field candidates against Jamaat

MALAKAND, Aug 7: The Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal (MMA) has received a setback in Malakand Agency as the Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam has decided to field separate candidates for the provincial and National Assembly seats for the coming general elections.

The workers and local leaders of the JUI, at a meeting attended by Senator Sahibzada Khalid Jan and District Amir Maulana Hameedullah Roghani, decided to part ways with the Jamaat-i-Islami and vowed to put up separate candidates for the elections.

The participants of the meeting said the two parties could no longer field joint candidates.

On the other hand, local leaders of the Jamaat-i-Islami expressed their resolve to keep the alliance intact.—APP
