SAHIWAL, Aug 2: Opposition union council nazims criticised District Nazim Rai Hasan Nawaz at the district council session on Thursday for not taking any action against “corrupt officers”. The opposition also walked out of the session.
Twenty-one opposition members later told a press conference that trees had been stolen from the Sahiwal District Headquarters Hospital and medicine racks valued Rs800,000 misappropriated by hospital employees. They accused the district nazim of not getting a case registered against the accused people.
They alleged the staff of the neuro surgery ward had misappropriated RS14.8 million and audit report had confirmed that Rs2.236 million had been embezzled.
They alleged that a non-government organisation was running the neuro surgery ward on commercial basis.
The opposition announced holding demonstration and protest moves against the district nazim.
The treasury members, however, continued the proceedings and approved RS725,000 for 11 information technology employees. The house also demanded that police arrest the robbers who had looted union council nazim Sadia Manzoor and her husband Malik Ejaz.
The meeting also demanded an action against the management of Musharraf Colony which had occupied 67 kanals of state land.
