LAHORE, Aug 1: Pakistan tennis star Aisam-ul-Haq has entered the second round of the Castillay Leon ATP Super Challenger, ousting a local player Adrian Menendeza after a nail-biting two setter at Segovia, Spain.
Aisam entered tie-breaker in both the sets to eventually win with 7-6 (4), 7-6 (3) score.
The Pakistan star will play against another upcoming Spaniard Guillermo Alcaide who has made headlines by defeating fifth seed Belgium’s Dick Norman.
Hard-hitting Spaniard Fernando Verdasco is the top seed in the US$150,000 tournament.
Aisam is also featuring in the doubles event. Pairing with India’s Rohan Bopanna he entered into the quarter-final, defeating pair of James Cerretani (USA) and Lukas Rosol (Czech Republic) 6-4, 4-6, 10-6.
In the quarter-finals, they will face Farrukh Dustov and Olivier Charroin, who hail from Uzbekistan and France, respectively.—Sports Correspondent
