US economic support plan for Pakistan

KARACHI, Aug 1: The United States is putting in motion a 15-year long term programme of economic support for Pakistan which has never been one for any country in the region.

This was stated by Chris Moore, deputy assistant secretary of state for trade policy and programmes in a meeting at the State Department in New York with Majyd Aziz, president of Karachi Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

He said there were many opportunities for Pakistan under the programme, such as Trade and Investment Facilitation Agreement, Bilateral Investment Treaty and Reconstruction Opportunity Zones.

The meeting was attended by Mrs Kay Ansker, the new American Consul-General in Karachi and Ms Mary Beth Goodman, the new Commerce and Economic Consul at the US Embassy in Islamabad.

Mr. Majyd was accompanied by a 12-member KCCI delegation on his US visit.
