QUETTA, July 31: Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz has said that the federal government would provide required resources to Balochistan for the rehabilitation of cyclone and flood affected people.

Speaking at the distribution of relief fund among the flood affected people in Jhal Magsi on Tuesday, he said the whole nation was sad over the massive destruction in the province due to floods and cyclone. The government, he added, wanted to resolve problems of Balochistan’s people.

“Rehabilitation of the flood victims would be started soon in all the affected districts of Balochistan,” he said, adding that government had already provided relief goods, including tents and edibles, and now it would start third phase of rehabilitation process.

Mr Aziz said that a survey was in progress to estimate the losses caused by cyclone and floods in the province.

He said that the situation in the Jhal Magsi district was worst as floodwater coming from Mula River destroyed all infrastructures. He announced construction of a dam at the Mula river to safe Jhal Magsi in future and for utilisation of flood water for irrigation purposes.

The prime minister also announced construction of a new grid station in Jhal Magsi. He directed Federal Minister for Water and Power Liaquat Jatoi to ensure power supply to the affected areas of Jhal Magsi.

“Present government believes in serving the people and it was taking all possible steps for the development and prosperity of the people,” Mr Aziz said, adding that many mega projects were launched in Balochistan and some of them had already completed including Gwadar port and the coastal highway.
