KARACHI, July 31: The need to form a separate police force for the Karachi Building Control Authority (KBCA) to ensure timely action against violators of building laws in the city was stressed in a meeting held here on Tuesday between officials of the authority and the city police force.
The meeting between KBCA Chief Controller Rauf Akhtar Farooqui and Acting City Police Chief and DIG (Operations) South Zone Javed Bukhari aimed at further improving relations between the authority and the city police.
Mr Farooqui said that coordinated links between the KBCA and the police force were crucial to discourage violators of building laws. He stressed the need for the police’s help in controlling illegal constructions.
Mr Bukhari said that the Sindh Police was extending its cooperation to other government departments. He vowed to keep a close vigil on the emergence of unauthorized constructions, saying that there was a need to set up a KBCA police station so that a separate force could initiate timely action against violators.
He said that the formation of a separate force would resolve issues like the shortage of police when it came time to carrying out raids. The acting CCPO also announced that an assistant DIG in each district as a focal person would be appointed.
It was also decided that Rabita officers of the KBCA would be appointed in each zone of the city police to boost links between the police and the authority.—PPI
