KARACHI: ‘Gulshan Town to spend 75pc of budget on development’


KARACHI, July 26: Gulshan-i-Iqbal Town will spend 75 per cent of its Rs1.22 billion budget for 2007-08 on development, while a large sum was also utilised for similar projects last year.

This was stated by Town Nazim Wasey Jalil at a post-budget press briefing here on Thursday.

“We have strived to carry out the best possible work by providing parks, clean environment, lights, sewerage system, water supply and good quality roads,” he said.

“Last year new parks were added while Rs8.224 million was distributed among deserving people through Baitul Maal,” he added.

According to him, Rs230m was spent in 19 months on development schemes, including the repair and construction of roads and footpaths while Alamgir Road is in the final stage of completion.

He pointed out that work on the construction of Tipu Sultan Road, Jauhar Morr and Mashriq Centre to University Road has started.

The town nazim told newsmen that roundabouts have been renovated with the cooperation of the private sector and Char Minar Chowrangi in Bahadurabad and National Flag Post Office near the TV station would soon be inaugurated. In order to improve the sanitary conditions, UCs 3, 6, 9, 11 and 12 had been outsourced to the private sector, he said.

Uplift of Goths

Shah Faisal Town Nazim Mohammed Imran has said that construction of roads in Noor Mohammed, Jumma and Siddiq goths will start soon.

He said development works for improved water supply, sewerage, and lights would also be carried out in the goths during the current financial year.

The town nazim said this while talking to residents during a visit to the goths in UC-7 along with UC Naib Nazim Dad Rahim Balouch here on Thursday.

He directed the accompanying officials to start a cleanliness drive in the goths and the adjoining areas and also fix the street lights.

Liaquatabad Town

Liaquatabad Town Nazim Osama Qadri, along with Karachi Water and Sewerage Board officials on Thursday visited different areas of the town and inspected uplift projects.

They inspected the laying of sewerage lines at Bantwa Nagar. Speaking on the occasion, the town nazim said that after the laying of these sewerage lines, the problems of the residents would be solved.

The nazim also visited Firdous Colony and Punjabi Para in UC-2. He directed the KWSB officials to prepare a plan to provide water connections to the citizens of these areas.—APP/PPI
