KARACHI: Govt urged to withdraw army from tribal areas

KARACHI, July 23: Central leader of the Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal and Secretary-General of the Jamaat-i-Islami Syed Munawwar Hassan said here on Monday that the army must immediately be called back from Waziristan, Swat, Dir and Malakand as its deployment there was sending a wrong message to the residents of those areas.

Addressing a press conference at Idara Noor-i-Haq, Syed Munawar Hassan alleged that the wrong policies of the rulers had ruined the peace pact in Waziristan besides creating instability in those sensitive border areas. He noted that due to the chaos created by the rulers in those areas, now Nato forces were threatening to take military action.

“Pakistan must resolutely condemn Nato for issuing such irresponsible statements,” he said, and criticised Foreign Minster Khursheed Kasuri for not taking a firm stance on the issue.

Syed Munawar Hassan charged that under a conspiracy the divisions were being widened between the army and the public in Waziristan and other parts of the NWFP. He alleged that the present dictators were deliberately fanning tension in those areas just to prolong their own rule.—PPI
