Rashid relishing Sachin test

LONDON, July 12: Adil Rashid hopes to fulfil a dream by bowling against Sachin Tendulkar when England Lions face India in a three-day match starting at Chelmsford on Friday.

The teenage leg-spinner, one of English cricket's most talked about prospects, is looking forward to pitting his wits against the master batsman in what will be India's final match before next week's first Test at Lord's.

But Yorkshire's Rashid said he wouldn't be overawed by being on the same field as the India great.“I'm not daunted. It will be quite a good challenge for me, bowling against the likes of Tendulkar,” Rashid said on Thursday. “It's always been my dream to bowl to Tendulkar — and I hope I'll get him out.”

Rashid, 19, goes into the tour match on the back of a return of five wickets for 114 runs for Yorkshire in the 'Roses' match against arch-rivals Lancashire at Old Trafford on Wednesday, a haul which ended a spell of almost two months without striking in the County Championship.

“The last few games I didn't really perform. I was put under pressure — but I thought if I got it in the right area wickets would come,” Rashid said.

“I'd been bowling quite well but not with all that much luck. You have to be careful not to try to take a wicket every ball, be patient and keep bowling your areas,” he added.

Rashid, the first Yorkshire-born Asian to make his first-class debut for the county, made a sensational start to his career last season by taking six for 67 in an innings win over Warwickshire in his opening County Championship match.—AFP
