By Munawer Azeem

ISLAMABAD, July 12: Police have booked late Maulana Abdul Rasheed Ghazi for murdering personnel of SSG, army and Rangers one day after he was killed in Operation Silence on July 10, sources told Dawn on Thursday.

The sources said at least eight separate cases had been registered against Mr Rasheed Ghazi, his nine associates and a number of accomplices with the Aabpara police since the start of the operation on July 3.

Out of the eight cases, two have been registered after his death, the sources said.

The cases were registered on the complaints of over 20 personnel of army, rangers, elite force and Islamabad police on various charges including murder, attempted murder and under anti-terrorism act.

The last case was registered against him on July 11 for murdering 10 personnel of paramilitary forces.

Likewise, the police also registered a case against him on July 10 for murdering Col Haroonul Islam of the Special Services Group and injuring some other personnel of the SSG on July 8.

It is yet to be ascertained how many people who surrendered or arrested are involved in these charges, the sources said, adding the law-enforcement agencies would interrogate them in this regard.
